How to Spend 3 Days in Prague

Prague is a city with an exciting mixture of contemporary cosmopolitanism and medieval architecture, where lively bars and traditional beer halls fuse together in the old town. If you’re in Prague just for three days, you will have ample time to discover the highlights of the city.

Take along this three days in Prague itinerary, and enjoy the best of Prague:

Day 1
Explore the old town and evening river cruise

Start the afternoon with lunch at a café in the Old Town (Staré Mesto) Square. Though busy, the Old Town Square is the best place to get a feel for the atmosphere of Prague’s medieval architecture and history.

The Old Town Square has well-preserved buildings and monuments including the famed Astronomical Clock and The Church of our Lady before Tyn, a gothic church from the mid-14th century.

Then, explore the other sights in Old Town: Kinsky Palace, The House at the Minute ( a Gothic-style 15th-century house), Estates Theater, Karolinum (original building of Charles University), Stone Bell House and Old Town Bridge Tower. If you’re up for it, climb the 138 steps of the Old Tower and enjoy a magnificent view of Charles Bridge, Vltava River, and Prague. You need to pay 100 CZK per person.

After the climb to the top of Old Town Bridge Tower, take a stroll on the iconic Charles River and enjoy the 30 sandstone statues of saints. The bridge is usually crowded during the day.

In the evening, hop on a river cruise with dinner, and get to know Prague from the Vltava River. Get an evening perspective of Charles Bridge, Prague Castle, National Theater, Rudolfinum (House of Arts) and Dancing House. The dinner cruise usually provides a three-course dinner and live music entertainment.

Day 2
Visit Prague Castle and evening performance at a theater

For those who like to have a self-guided tour, take the Tram 22 to Prague Castle. Get the tram ticket from a store that has the word “Tabak” in front. You have the options of choosing a 30-minute, 90-minute, 24-hour or 72-hour card.

Go uphill and enjoy the scenic ride to the castle complex. Prague Castle is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the biggest castle complexes in Europe.

To save time, get the skip-the-line Prague Castle admission ticket online, and have more time inside the castle.

Discover Prague Castle’s St. Vitus Cathedral, Old Royal Palace, St. George’s Basilica and the Golden Lane. After the tour, make your way downhill for lunch. Make sure you try the famous Koleno (pork knuckle), roast duck, and smazeny syr (fried cheese). Of course, try the local Prague beer too.

After lunch, make your way to Mala Strana (Lesser Town) to visit the famed Lennon Wall and explore the cobbled backstreets of the area below the castle.

In the evening get transported to the world of classical music and opera in Prague. Get your tickets early and enjoy. Catching a performance in Prague is way cheaper than cities like Vienna.

Before you go, look at the list of performances provided by Prague Experience.

Have a late dinner at your hotel or a restaurant close to the theater before making your way back to the hotel.

Day 3
Tour Josefov and drink beer

Spend the morning on a walking tour through Josefov. Josefov was once a walled Jewish Ghetto, and today it offers one of the best places in Europe to see collections of Jewish monuments and historical synagogues. Most Josefov walking tours include visiting the Klausen Synagogue, Spanish Synagogue, Maisel Synagogue, Jewish Town Hall, Jewish Ceremonial Hall, Old Jewish Cemetery, Pinkas Synagogue (Holocaust memorial), Franz Kafka’s birthplace and Parizska Street, an upscale shopping street.

In the evening at 6 pm, join a three-hour Mini Breweries Tour. Learn about traditional Czech beer and get a chance to sample a variety of beer accompanied by Czech appetizers.

It’s a fun way to end your three full days in Prague. Three days may seem short in Prague, but if you follow this itinerary, you’ll see more than the average tourist.
